Now, the paint is up and that means it is time to start putting down the bamboo flooring. This is a "hardwood" type flooring that uses tongue and groove installation. I am opting for cletes rather than glue to hold down the floor. So first we put down the tar paper to keep a nice environment free floor. next was the layer of cork to help with cushioning and movement of the floor from temp changes. (or something like that). After that bamboo installation...wouldn't you know this task turned into a nightmare??? It was suppose to take one weekend, but with the chop saw causing splintering and removing the groove or tongue on end pieces it became a more "long-term" project. You see the blade on thee chop saw is no longer sold at home-depot or lowe's so we had to take it to a special place so they could fix the missing tooth and sharpen it to avoid that splintering action. The other problem arose because we wanted to cut the pieces into differing lengths so the seams wouldn't be int he same place on the floor. however, when you cut the long piece into smaller pieces it make a flat cut on the inside pieces. So there is no tongue or groove. So, happy day for my dad he got to buy a new tool (a router with table) so we could make our own tongue and grooves on the inside pieces. Now, we are set and should finish the floor this weekend. Here are a couple photos of the beginning of the process.
